Clara and the Sun – Kasuo Ishiguro
Clara is an android who befriends her owner, a young girl and tries to help her. Wonderfully moody book narrated from the point of view of a naive android trying to understand her place in the human world. Poses interesting questions on the rules o engagement between humans and AI.

American Dirt – Jeanne Cummins
A story about immigration and the struggles central Americans have in escaping violent in their own countries as they make the dangerous journey up north for asylum. I thought it provided me with a lot of insight into the situation but apparently the book was panned since it was written by a white woman who had really not experienced the hardships of the immigrants. The issue was that other books return by central Americans on the subject never got the credit and acclaim that this book got.

Midnights Children – Salman Rushdie
Got half way through it and then decided to hop on to something lighter. The writing is brilliant and funny and dark but the myriad of characters and the long timeline made it difficult to keep track of what the hell was happening. Needs a more focused attention span which is difficult to do when I have WhatsApp messages to answer and TikTok videos to watch.

The Last Policeman – Ben Winters
An asteroid is headed towards Earth and society is crumbling. People unable to handle the impending doom are committing suicide in droves. However a newly promoted detective finds one apparent suicide suspicious and narrates the investigation in a stylized crime noir tone. Apparently its part of a trilogy, but not that interested in continuing.
